Overview

Stains, Paints, and Colored Glass

Different manufacturers approached decorating of pieces in different ways. Before the late 1950s, most manufacturers produced pieces in clear glass (aka Crystal), then stained or painted them as needed. Although this continued until the end of all production of the pattern, the 1960s introduced colored glass to the offerings. Typically, colored glass was not subsequently stained or painted.

The swatch thumbnails provide guidance to what the manufacturer originally called the specific color.

	Amber / Gold
	Deep amber or gold color used by Indiana Glass

	Carnival Glass, Blue
	"Oil Sheen" effect.

	Carnival Glass, Gold
	"Oil Sheen" effect.

	Charcoal
	A charcoal back, stone like coating.

	Cobalt Blue
	Used in the 1961 to 1962 US Glass 'Antique Thumbprint' solid color line. Limited to stemware and the 7 3/8 inch salad plate.

	Cobalt Blue, Tiara
	Produced by Indiana Glass for the Tiara Exclusives division. This is a much more translucent blue than the later Colony Blue.

	Colony Blue
	A very robust blue introduced by Colony Glass.

	Crystal
	Clear glass with a good brilliance.

	Crystal with Copper Band
	Crystal with a painted Copper band.
	Additional catalog number of #121 included when this treatment was done.

	Crystal with Cranberry Stain
	Clear glass with one or more areas stained in cranberry.

	Crystal with Dark Ruby Stain
	Clear glass with one or more areas stained in dark ruby.
	Typically found in the original 1890-1910 productions. A very thick staining.

	Crystal with Dark Ruby Stain, engraved
	Clear glass with one or more areas stained in dark ruby with the staining engraved.
	Typically found in the original 1890-1910 productions. A very thick staining. The engraving does not extend into the glass, just the staining.

	Crystal with Gold Band
	Crystal glass with a gold band.
	This style was used by both US Glass starting in the early 1950s, as well as Indiana Glass and later. The US Glass objects had the gold hand-painted on. When US Glass, an additional catalog number of #121 was used.

	Crystal with Light Blue Stain
	Clear glass with one area stained in a medium-light blue.

	Crystal with Ruby Stain
	Clear glass with one or more areas stained in ruby.

	Crystal with Satin Finish
	US Glass option, unknown extent of the availability. c1950's.

	Crystal with Silver Band
	The silver/platinum band was introduced by Indiana Glass; there was no older version of this color.

	Crystal with Sterling Mounts
	US Glass option, unknown extent of the availability. c1950's.

	Crystal, engraved
	Clear glass with an engraved pattern, also known as 'grey cut'.

	Dark Opaque Red
	A dark red, which has strong orange tones when held up to a strong light.

	Empire Green
	An emerald/forest green
	Used in the 1961 to 1962 US Glass 'Antique Thumbprint' solid color line.

	Frosted Crystal
	Clear glass with most of the surface lightly pitted to form a frosted look.

	Gold (all-over)
	An all over Gold treatment.
	The US Glass release of this was only on stemware and the 7 3/8 inch salad plate.

	Golden Bananna
	A light and bright yellow color.
	Used in the circa 1961 US Glass 'Antique Thumbprint' solid color line.

	Grecian Line: Orange

	Grecian Line: Red

	Ice Blue
	Mid opacity vibrant 'Ice Blue" made by Indiana Glass
	'Ice Blue' may not be the official name.

	Milk Glass
	All white glass.

	Olive Green
	A dark, slightly olive toned green.
	Found on solid-colored pieces produced by Indiana Glass and later manufacturers. The green used by US Glass was a lighter color, and leaning more towards a forest green.

	Plum
	A light purple/amethyst.
	Used in the 1961 to 1962 US Glass 'Antique Thumbprint' solid color line.

	Satin Mist, Blue
	Frosted, electric/ice blue.

	Satin Mist, Red
	Frosted, Cherry Red

	Solid Satin Finish with Desert Rose pattern
	US Glass option, unknown extent of the availability. c1950's.
